Toby Keith's 'Drunk Americans' Debuts As No. 1 Most Added
Billboard and Country Aircheck/Mediabase charts. On the hit, the superstar sings about diversity in our society with a message of unity and having a good time together - no matter who you are. "Drunk Americans" is a song that also continues to break down barriers.
And, Toby knows a good drinking song when he hears it. He said of the track, which was written by Brandy Clark, Bob DiPiero, and Shane McAnally, "'Drunk Americans' sounded like a combination of
'I Love This Bar', 'Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue,' and 'American Ride.' The first time I heard it, I knew I was going to have to go in and cut it. It felt like a smash to me."
In a recent interview, Clark was quoted as saying, "I've loved Toby Keith for a long time. We wanted to write a modern day, 'Piano Man' [Billy Joel's masterpiece]. It's like when we are in here drinking, who cares what we are outside of this?"
Taste of Country also adds, "The bar has provided inspiration for many of Toby Keith's most recent radio singles, and the good times don't appear to be coming to an end. 'Drunk Americans' is his latest. The woozy waltz adds a hint of inclusive social commentary to allow it to stand out from the rest."
Keith's talent is also being celebrated with the Songwriters Hall of Fame just announcing Keith as one of their 2015 induction nominees. He joins the company of Tom Petty and Cat Stevens on the list. The Songwriter's Hall of Fame is dedicated to recognizing the work and lives of those composers and lyricists who create popular music around the world, and honors those whose work represents a spectrum of the most beloved songs from the world's popular music songbook.
The nomination is preceded by honors from the Nashville Songwriters Association International as their Songwriter/Artist of the Decade as well as being a three-time BMI Country Songwriter/Artist of the Year and Billboard's No. 1 Country Artist of the Decade and No. 1 Country Songwriter of the Decade.
Like his unparalleled catalog of chart-topping music, Toby's new single fuels a powerful machine that includes acclaimed albums, standing-room-only tours (such as his ongoing
Shut Up And Hold On Tour Presented by Ford F-Series) and extended business ventures such as his Wild Shot Mezcal. But such successes pale next to Toby's passion for helping children through his foundation and his tireless work in support of America's fighting men and women.
Earlier this year, further recognition for his career as a whole was given to Toby with the receipt of an ACM Career Achievement Award, which honors artists who have advanced the popularity and acceptance of country music through their endeavors in the entertainment industry in multiple areas during the preceding calendar year. He was cited for the Twister Relief Benefit Concert he organized last year after tornadoes devastated sections of Oklahoma, and for his 11 USO tours in support of American troops fighting abroad as well as the work done through his charity, the Toby Keith Foundation, and their OK Kids Korral, a cost-free home built to help children suffering with pediatric cancer and their families.
