Toby Keith Foundation Holds Second Annual Kones for the Korral
Fittingly, the event coincided with Childhood Cancer Awareness month in September. Kones for the Korral benefits OK Kids Korral, Keith’s cost-free home in Oklahoma City for families with kids fighting cancer battling cancer. The event featured things kids love, including almost dozen different flavors of ice cream (all you can eat!), water slides, bounce houses, a stage with free entertainment, face painting and pony rides.
What’s a better time spent than eating ice cream, benefiting sick kids and having fun, all at once?
Keith’s OK Kids Korral officially opened Nov. 21, 2013 after years in the making — ten to be exact. At the time of its opening, the singer said, “We’ve been working on the Korral for 10 years and we’re finally going to open. Thank you to all of those people who have supported us over the years. Ten years goes by fast when you are working toward a goal this big.”
He’s called founding the home a calling from God, describing it as “Ritz Carlton meets Disney World.” That description rings true: the facility spans 25,000 square feet and includes a gourmet kitchen, indoor play room with a Route 66 theme, an outdoor playground with a Oklahoma theme, a game room, a family resource room, a laundry room, a theater room and a reflection room.
Many of the families and children who participated in the event on Monday have been personally touched by what the OK Kids Korral has to offer. All of the proceeds went toward the facility, helping it continue being awesome at providing excellent support during a difficult time.
Keith clearly has a heart of gold, recently raising almost $ 1 million at his golf classic to benefit the Toby Keith Foundation and the causes it supports.
