OK Kids Korral nears completion in Oklahoma City

The country music star personally thanked workers from Manhattan Construction and architects from Crafton Tull on Monday for their work on the OK Kids Korral. Construction started in June 2012 and is to be finished by fall.

Exterior work is nearly complete on the .5 million, 25,000-quare-foot building at NE 8 and Laird, said Juliet Nees-Bright, executive director for the Toby Keith Foundation.

“We're moving all the construction workers inside to start the interior work on dry wall, painting and all the finishes,” she said.

Nees-Bright said construction was spearheaded by Keith after the child of one of his band members died of pediatric cancer a few years ago.

“The family was helped by a facility in another state,” she said. “Toby wanted to open a similar facility in his home state to help families of children battling pediatric cancer.”

The lodge will include 12 overnight suites and four daytime suites. It also will include a dining hall, a game room, a gourmet kitchen, indoor and outdoor playgrounds and a movie theater which doubles as a safe room in the event of a tornado.
