(Nashville, TN) “Winner” and “rollicking comic joyride” are just two of the superlatives that film critics are using to hail Beer for My Horses, the new film starring, co-written and co-produced by music superstar Toby Keith. In just its first weekend in select theaters, the movie is raking in blockbuster ticket sales, taking #1 in 20 theater complexes, including theaters in Indianapolis, IN, Tulsa, OK and Nashville, TN markets to name a few as well as theaters in Pittsburgh, PA, Buffalo, NY, Oklahoma City and Little Rock, AR.

Yahoo! Movies raves at how it’s “a rip-roaring roaring road trip with all the makings of a rollicking comic joyride” while The Buffalo News hails the film as “idiomatically dead-on, well-written, smartly paced and provides plenty of belly laughs.” The reviewer for Tulsa Today predicts that Beer for My Horses “is a cult classic in the making” and “thoroughly enjoyed its humor, quirks and shockingly competent supporting cast.”

The Tennessean notes how “laughs flow in Beer For My Horses.” The Nashville City Paper observes that the movie “overall will appeal to Western and adventure lovers as well as fans,” while Nashville’s All The Rage says “Toby Keith brews up a winner.”  And the Oklahoman confirms how it succeeds in paying homage to one of Keith’s inspirations for the film in the way it “follows in the vein of Smokey and the Bandit.”

Beer for My Horses follows the exploits of two small town deputies and best friends — played by Keith and his friend, comedian and co-writer Rodney Carrington — who defy the local sheriff to embark on an outrageous road trip to save one of their girlfriends from drug lord kidnappers. The film also stars Claire Forlani (CSI: NY), guitar legend Ted Nugent, Barry Corbin, Greg Serano, with special appearances by country icon Willie Nelson and Golden Globe nominee Tom Skerritt. The film is directed by Michael Salomon and produced by Donald Zuckerman and Toby Keith with executive producers are TK Kimbrell, Jeff Yapp and Leslie Belzberg.

The film shares the same title as the song “Beer for My Horses,” one of Keith’s biggest hits and a duet with Nelson that spent six weeks at #1. The song is now the title track for the movie’s just-released original soundtrack album on Keith’s Show Dog Nashville label, featuring contributions from Nugent (his classic “Cat Scratch Fever” and “Stranglehold’), Carrington (his bra-busting anthem “Show Them To Me”) and country legend Mel Tillis (“Burning Memories”). Show Dog recording artists Trailer Choir’s “Off The Hillbilly Hook” is the album’s first single, and the CD also includes contributions from Show Dog artists Carter’s Chord (“Song of Blue”) and Mica Roberts, who duets with Keith on “Let’s Get Trashed.”

Toby Keith is one of today’s most successful musical entertainers, in just this decade alone he has sold 25 million albums and his songs have spent more than a year at No. 1 on the singles charts. Hes one of the most awarded artists in any genre as a singer, songwriter and entertainer, and Beer for My Horses follows his successful 2006 film acting debut in Broken Bridges.
